Maurizio Marchesini, owner of Marchesini Group, an international leader in the pharmaceutical and cosmetics packaging machine sector, and Riccardo Cavanna, Chief Executive Officer of Cavanna Spa, a model international company in the food packaging equipment sector, have been appointed the new vice chairmen of Ucima, the national association of Italian automatic packaging machinery manufacturers.
The two Vice Chairmen will work alongside Giuseppe Lesce, who was re-elected to the helm of UCIMA at the national Members' Meeting held on 15 June at the association's headquarters (Villa Marchetti, Via Fossa Buracchione 84, Baggiovara).
Biographical notes for the two Vice Chairmen
Born in 1955, Maurizio Marchesini began his business career at the age of 22 working alongside his father Massimo, who a few years previously had set up his own business in the so-called "Packaging Valley" near Bologna. Through a series of partnerships, acquisitions and a shrewd strategy of internationalising distribution, Maurizio transformed the original small business into a leading international player in the packaging sector.
He is married with two daughters, Valentina 29 and Gaia 21.
Marchesini, elected Chairman of Confindustria Emilia-Romagna on 12 June this year for the two-year period 2011-2013, is not new to association appointments. He is a member of the national board of Confindustria and served as chairman of Unindustria Bologna during the two-year period 2009-2011. For the previous two years, he served as chairman of the mechanical engineering sector at Unindustria Bologna.
He is also chairman of Fondazione Aldini Valeriani, a centre of excellence for the development of technical expertise and promotion of technological innovation set up by the Municipality of Bologna, Unindustria Bologna and the Bologna Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Artisanship and Agriculture.
Riccardo Cavanna was born in Valsesia in 1970. After various working experiences in Italy and abroad, in 2000 he became a board member of the family company Cavanna spa. Since 2004 he has served as managing director alongside his sister Alessandra. He spearheaded the group's internationalisation strategy, which led to the opening of the first overseas production facility in Brazil followed by sales branches in the USA and Germany. As a result, the company has doubled its turnover in the space of ten years and now has four manufacturing facilities.
He is married with four daughters.
Cavanna is likewise a well-known figure in the association world. For years he has served on the executive board of Ucima and is Chairman of the promotional activities commission. He is also on the board of Foraz, an inter-company consortium for professional training and business culture development, and is a member of GEI (Gruppo Esponenti Italiani, the association of large Italian companies operating in Brazil).
