Italian food technologies head to Algiers
Ucima and the Italian Trade Agency ITA are supporting the participation of 45 Italian companies in Djazagro, the Algerian food processing and packaging technology exhibition
Djazagro 2019, North Africa’s most important exhibition for the agri-food industry, will be held in the Safex exhibition centre in Algiers from 25 to 28 February. An unmissable appointment for all companies specialising in food processing, preservation and packaging technologies, Djazagro will welcome more than 20,000 visitors and host over 700 exhibitors from 30 countries.
The Italian food processing & packaging industry will be well represented with 45 companies coordinated by the Italian Trade Agency ITA and Ucima in a space of more than 600 sqm. One of the planned promotional initiatives is distribution of the magazine PackMedia Selection showcasing the very best of Italian-made design, materials and technologies.
The Italian companies are based in the most important Italian food technology manufacturing areas: 7 companies from the province of Parma, 7 from Vicenza, 4 from Asti, 3 from Bologna and 2 each from the provinces of Modena, Padua, Pavia and Reggio Emilia, as well as leading companies based in the provinces of Bergamo, Brescia, Cuneo, Gorizia, Mantua, Milan, Monza, Perugia, Rome, Salerno, Treviso, Varese, Venice and Verona.
The Algerian agri-food industry has developed significantly in the last fifteen years to become the country’s second most important sector after hydrocarbons. With the aim of reducing imports of finished products, the government’s development programme involves doubling the number of companies operating in the sector, modernising equipment and boosting production capacity. Italy is Algeria’s largest trade partner in the sector with exports of agri-food machinery and equipment totalling $158.96 million in 2017.
